My trailed build recommendation for your initial flash of a E4200 is dd-wrt.v24-27490_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini-e4200.bin (yes, I know that’s different than what the DD-WRT wiki says, but it’s the only place where the wiki and I don’t agree).

I've read on the forum that tx power is hard coded but I'm not sure if it's hard coded to max out based on u.s.regulations or specific to the region bought. Basically I'm trying to work out if DD wrt will help me with WiFi range before installing and loosing my settings because it's terrible on stock firmware. Big thanks for everyone's help. Mar 28, 2016 · For whatever reason, DD-WRT isn’t officially supported on them, though it does seem to be a popular DD-WRT router. A lot of people make the upgrade far more difficult than they need to. With some simple hacks, Linksys EA6200 DD-WRT installation is pretty straightforward. I came up with an 18-step process that I simplified just as much as I could. By default almost all WiFi access points transmit at full power (100mW on 2.4GHz). This gives maximum coverage and users see a good signal ("full bars"). However, there are good reasons to turn down the transmit power to a fraction of the maximum. May 06, 2020 · If you were connected wirelessly, you should eventually see a Wi-Fi network titled dd-wrt. Connect to it, then head to 192.168.1.1 to configure your router. DD-WRT wiki says 70dbm, but I just wanted to make sure since 20 - 70 is such a big jump. Jan 10, 2013 · UPDATED Dec 21, 2016. This post is a reference post for those looking to squeeze maximum speed out of their Cisco Linksys E4200 v1 wireless router running DD-WRT.The DD-WRT build I currently recommend for this router is K2.6 30880 (by BrainSlayer).

Tx- power is a measure of how strong the signal is transmitted. The best setting is the minimum level necessary to keep the signal with the boundaries of the WiFi’s location.

- *.bin files can only be flashed from dd-wrt webif. - *.chk can be flashed from Netgear factory fw and from dd-wrt webif - I don't provide factory to dd-wrt for non Netgear models since I do not own any non Netgear Broadcom units. All builds include ddup util, which allows update checking and flashing of the following models: Netgear EX6200 The tx power increase didn't do anything for range. I have a third party connection software running on my pc and it says 55% signal strength, but dd-wrt says only 20%. I think I'll go with dd-wrt's signal estimate, because my download and only goes up to about 5mBps.

The optimal Tx-power is the LOWEST that's still adequate for your needs. Better to reduce electrosmog than to increase it. I've reduced the Tx-power of my own router to 5, by the way. On my laptops I've reduced the Tx-power of the wireless chipsets to 5 as well (only possible in Linux, as far as I know). Fine for my needs.

Both on the 2.4GHz and the 5GHz (VHT80 - 161 LL-6) the transmit power is capping out at 24dbm (250mW) under United States regulatory which should allow for up to 30dbm (1W). I noticed this when I realized the range drop between stock and dd-wrt.
